A very rare 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante is sold on auction by RM Sotheby’s at the company’s Driven by Disruption sale in New York City.
Only 32 examples of the Type 57C Atalante were ever produced and this particular example is one of just 12 units with a completely aluminium body. The desirable and sought-after French car was originally purchased by successful businessman John W. Straus and spent 50 years of its life stored away, so it is in an amazing condition.
In 2007, it underwent a comprehensive restoration and went on to place 2nd in class at the 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. At Pebble Beach two years ago, a similar Type 57C Atalante was sold for $8.5 million and it seems likely that this unit could fetch in excess of $10 million when the auction ends.
